The Subaru Forester has long been one of the top-selling Subaru models thanks to its combination of a versatile compact body style, reassuring safety features and all-wheel drive capability. But now, for the first time, Subaru will soon launch a Forester model with a hybrid powertrain. It will combine Subaru's proven flat-four internal combustion engine with two electric motors to deliver greater fuel efficiency while preserving the Forester's irrepressible driving personality.
What's new for 2025?
The all-new 2025 Subaru Forester Hybrid SUV gets the same exterior design refresh and newly revised chassis as its non-hybrid Forester cousin but the hybrid powertrain is a completely new offering. Subaru's patented Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive comes standard, of course, and a hands-free foot-activated power tailgate is an available option. The Forester Hybrid offers Cleveland, OH buyers a new electric power steering system that it shares with the WRX.
Design
The 2025 Subaru Forester features attractive exterior elements like handsomely contoured lines, distinctive fenders with design touches like geometric trim accents, headlights and front grille. Performance
The remarkable new powertrain in the Subaru Forester Hybrid combines a 2.5-liter flat-four-cylinder engine operating with the efficient Atkinson cycle and two electric motors. One motor powers the wheels and the other performs as a motor generator. The Forester Hybrid comes with a sealed lithium battery and the hybrid is being described by Subaru as a series-parallel system.
That means it can toggle back and forth between the engine and the electric motors to power the wheels based on the driving situation. The combined result is 194 horsepower, which is 14 more than the non-hybrid Forester. Standard features include a continuously variable transmission and 8.7 inches of ground clearance, something that Shaker Heights, OH outdoor lovers will appreciate.
Fuel economy
Since it's a hybrid, the Subaru Forester Hybrid's calling card will be fuel efficiency. The EPA hasn't released official numbers but it's expected that the 2025 Forest Hybrid will deliver up to 40% better fuel economy in a city like Hudson, OH and as much as 25% better combined fuel efficiency. That means the city number will be about 36 MPG and the combined city/highway figure will be 25 MPG, so get ready to save on fuel.

The Forester Hybrid will have a little less cargo space than the non-hybrid because of the space required for the battery under the floor.
