An Adoptober to Remember - Mindy N

We partnered with our local Subaru dealership, Ken Ganley Subaru, and created an adoption event called Adoptober, and clients played 'Phantom Plinko' style games to learn the price of their adoption, either $30, $40, or $50. From October 4th through October 31, over 130 dogs were adopted! We held an adoption event at the dealership on Make a Dog's Day, and invited folks in to adopt and to the shelter. We truly "made our dog's day." They got breakfast eggs made by our staff, car rides for cheeseburgers with volunteers, all dogs got in-kennel sundaes, play time with their best canine friends, and soo much more! It was a ton of fun spoiling our dogs together! We had a few underdogs, but one of our favorite stories is of Feta, now Harli. Feta came to the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter as a stray and her paws were torn and bleeding. She was clearly a senior lady and wasn't the biggest fan of shelter life. While her little feet and pads recovered, she learned to trust us and her true personality came out. While she was 13 years old, she was still full of spunk and sass! Feta walked with a prance and gait of a show pony, not a homeless shelter dog. Her kennel was always full of the coziest dog beds and blankets. She had her clique` of canine friends that she hung around each morning during playgroup, and our staff and volunteers just fell in love with her! At 13 years young, she wasn't drawing in tons of adopters, but one special human recognized all that personality and took her home for a foster trial. Once at home Feta warmed up to her dogs and made herself right at home. Her foster Mom knew she wasn't coming back to the shelter! She told us, "I'm her lucky new mom! She's been a dream dog and am so grateful she's in my home now." We couldn't be happier for Harli (Feta) and all the dogs that found loving new homes thanks to Subaru! We appreciate your dedication to our pets!

Making a difference in our dogs lives - Jen H

Here at the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter, we bring in hundreds of stray dogs throughout the county a year. All needing medical care, food, spay or neuters and vaccines and many needing medical care above and beyond. We cannot and do not turn stray animals away and many haven't always had the best of medical care. It's through donations from companies like Subaru that can make the difference in these dogs lives. Additionally, our local Subaru is continually working with us to help support pet adoptions, collect donations and help us financially do everything they can for our pups. We couldn't do it without them!

Ganley Subaru Loves To Help - We support the BPD! - Cathy B

Ganley Subaru of Bedford had the pleasure of being able to donate snacks and drinks to the Bedford Police Station. Our community is something we take pride in and the local police officers have been a great help to us. This is a token of our appreciation for all of the hard work they do for us and the whole community to keep everyone safe. We enjoyed getting to meet with the officers and get to know them a little better as we dropped off the donations and spent some time at the station. This is our second year teaming up with our Bedford Police to donate items and we plan to do this for many years to come. We are always looking for more ways to get involved and give back to our community.

Buck Moore's Long Journey - Jennifer H

Buck Moore came to the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter after he was shot in the head twice, at point blank range. Miraculously he survived, but he had a bullet lodged in his face and multiple medical complications to over come, including acute renal disease. One of our longest term resident this year, Buck was with us 8 months, having had multiple surgeries and working on getting his renal disease under control. It took him awhile to trust all of us, but he thrived and became a regular member of the CCAS family. Once Buck was put on the main adoption floor, we posted lots of adorable pictures of him and what expectations a new family would have in moving forward with an adoption. While some families came to ask about him, several times, he was passed over as it wasn't the right fit or the challenges of taken on medical issues that would be long term. In October of this year, a young woman came in and keenly listened as we told her Buck's story. Where he had been and what it would look like going forward with costly prescription food bills and follow up exams. She was not deterred and after meeting with him, she knew he was the pup for her. She recently sent a 'pupdate' which we were able to share on our Facebook page: "Hey everybody! Remember me? I just thought I’d check in from home to let you know being adopted is awesome! My mom takes me to the park and let’s me do zoomies until my heart’s content; then we chill at home. She says I’m a special dog, brimming with affection and super obedient. She said she’s lucky to have me, but I know I’m the lucky one!" We were overjoyed! The work that was achieved with Buck is due in large part to organizations such as Ganley who donates to our Best Friends Medical Fund. This fund serves to treat all of our medical needs for the strays that come into the shelter. It's because of their generosity and the generosity of all of the community at large that we can provide those life saving surgeries, medicines and pricey prescription foods that saved Buck's life. We feel so incredibly blessed and are thankful that Buck now gets to live the life he always deserved.

Buck Moore's Long Journey - Jen H

Buck Moore came to the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter after he had been shot in the head twice, at point blank range. Miraculously he survived, but he had a bullet lodge in his face and multiple medical complications to overcome including acute renal injury. That means that during the remainder of his life, he will require lots of follow up exams and very pricey prescription food. Due to these medical issues, he was one of our longest term resident being here for almost 8 months, but he thrived and soon became one of our favorite dogs and certainly one of the family. But we knew his issues were going to make him hard to place with a family. Despite posting Buck Moore on our website and (what we think) were the cutest pictures ever, he didn't receive too much interest and for those that were interested, it was understandably a lot for an adopter to take on. But just this past October, a young woman expressed interest and keenly listened as we told her everything he had been through and where he would need to go from here. She wasn't scared off. She met with Buck, fell in love and decided to adopt. It wasn't that long ago that we received an update and we were able to post this on our Facebook page, "Hey everybody! Remember me? I just thought I’d check in from home to let you know being adopted is awesome! My mom takes me to the park and let’s me do zoomies until my heart’s content; then we chill at home. She says I’m a special dog, brimming with affection and super obedient. She said she’s lucky to have me, but I know I’m the lucky one!" It warmed our hearts! And the reason we are able to make transformation stories possible is through the help of our community partners, like Ganley Subaru, whose donations to our Best Friends Medical Fund make it possible for us to provide those life saving surgeries and the costly medicines and food that would able to keep Buck alive and thriving (and now living the life he deserves). We are so grateful for all of their support and for the support of all our community in helping us live our mission, 'a home for every dog'.
