Innovative Safety Features for the Subaru Lineup

Subaru is known for its commitment to cutting-edge safety features that keep drivers aware, safe, and confident. All 2018 Subaru models with EyeSight® and Steering Responsive Headlights earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick. The IIHS found that EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology reduces rear-end collisions with injuries by up to 85%.

Safety is always a top priority for any Cleveland driver when looking for their next car, and our Subaru models have class-leading safety features for your peace of mind on the road.

What is EyeSight®?

EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology is an innovative safety system that monitors traffic movement, optimizes cruise control, and warns you if you sway outside your lane. This is done by using two dual color cameras and radar sensors.

EyeSight® acts as the nervous system of your Subaru, sensing imminent collisions and alerting drivers to danger using acoustic and visual warnings. EyeSight® can even automatically react to certain situations when you are unable to in order to reduce damage or avoid a collision altogether. EyeSight® comes with four core features which include:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Lane Keep Assist and Sway Warning
  • Pre-Collision Throttle Management
  • Pre-Collision Braking

Which Subaru Models Come with EyeSight®?

EyeSight® comes standard on the new Outback, Forester, Legacy, and Ascent. EyeSight® is available on all trim levels of the Impreza and Crosstrek and available on one trim level of the WRX. The wider availability of EyeSight® for the most recent Subaru lineup makes it more accessible than ever for Beachwood drivers.

What Traction and Stability Safety Features Are Available for Subaru Models?

Every model, with the exception of the BRZ, comes with the legendary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. This iconic all-wheel drive system instantly sends torque to the wheels that need it most. The perfectly balanced system allows for exceptional handling in all types of driving conditions.

The Traction Control System (TCS) is offered for every Subaru model to sense any loss of traction and applies braking force to the slipping wheel or wheels as necessary to keep the vehicle motion. The Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) comes standard on nearly all Subaru models for superior electronic stability.

The VDC uses sensors that constantly monitor wheel speeds, steering angle, brake pressure, vehicle yaw rate, and lateral g-forces. When VDC detects a difference between the driver's intended path and the path the vehicle is actually taking, VDC applies braking power and/or reduced engine torque to help maintain the driver's intended path while driving in the Shaker Heights area.

In addition to these commonly found stability and traction features, there are also several others that are available for select trim levels and models. Some of these include:

  • X-MODE®
  • Hill Descent Control
  • Active Torque Vectoring

What Other Safety Features Are Offered for the Subaru Lineup?

Subaru models are built with high tensile steel, a ring-shaped reinforcement design, which helps the vehicle hold its integrity in a collision. Many Subaru models also come with an advanced frontal airbag system, side curtain airbags with a rollover sensor protecting front and rear outboard passengers, and seat-mounted front side impact airbags. With these, drivers in the Hudson, OH, area can feel confident that Subaru excels at the fundamentals.

As for additional safety technology, Subaru offers even more driver assistance and safety features on select models. Some of these features include:

  • High Beam Assist
  • Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
  • Reverse Automatic Braking
  • 180-Degree Front View Camera
  • Subaru DriverFocus®
